This is a world premi?\xaere recording of the complete operetta. An operetta with musical elements of true opera, 'Jabuka' (Das Apfelfest), is Johann Strauss the Younger's fourteenth stage work. An annual Apple Festival in the Serbian town of Ravica is an opportunity for local young people to choose a partner. The girl bites an apple, gives it to her chosen boy, and if he also takes a bite, the match is made. It is against this backdrop that the impoverished noblemen, Mirko and Vasil, find a way out of their difficulties by finding rich brides at the Apple Festival of the title. With its strikingly fresh and original melodies, great ensembles and some of the finest choruses Strauss ever wrote, 'Jabuka' was a huge success at its premi?\xaere in Vienna in October 1894.
Jabuka is celebrated today
Entr'acte
You boys and servants, hey, make way
How dare you disturb us in our enjoyment
In all the land am I known
With the bad times gone
Zivio! Zivio! Make the glasses clink!
Say then
To the rescue, to the rescue, people!
See the sun flicker in splendour
What do I see?
If also luck will let us wait
In vain am I searching, abandoned in this place
Ich bin dir gut! - Johann Strauss II
Outside, outside! Closer, women and men
Zivio! - Johann Strauss II
All around there is happy dancing
Das Comitat geht in die Hoh'! - Johann Strauss II
Once upon a time, only in a fairytale
Tanze mit dem Besenstiel! - Johann Strauss II
Please Come In
Sonnenblume - Johann Strauss II
As the chroniclers proclaim
Jabuka-Quadrille - Johann Strauss II
